Checking into Wildernest signifies a commitment to immersing oneself in the Goan jungle. Leave any expectations of a luxury getaway at the door as a stay at Wildernest is all about an active day of exploration. Located at Chorla Ghat on the border with Karnataka, Wildernest is 800 metres above sea level overlooking the Vazra valley with panoramic views of Goa. They have 18 cottages divided by the kind of views they offer. Accommodation is modern-ish, if rather basic. Cut off from the wider world, a stay here is full board. Guests have all three meals at the main restaurant, Randhan, which serves up local fare and tends to pack some heat. Requests for less spicy food and other dietary requirements are accommodated. A stay here involves perpetual mist, lots of walking along steep, uneven pathways and getting up, close and personal with frogs, snakes, birds, and insects. The place is ill-equipped for the elderly or infirm.

The team behind Wildernest would like guests to experience the rich biodiversity of the jungle and acquaint themselves with local culture. An activity chart is posted daily giving guests a range of opportunities to structure their day. Guided hikes and walks, birdwatching, folk performances, and community fairs make up the program for those that want to be active. For those seeking retreat and tranquillity, the resort is full of hammocks, hideaways and machans. An infinity pool with a majestic view, a hotel bar and an ayurshala provide more opportunities for relaxation. Given the absence of connectivity, a stay at Wildernest is the perfect excuse for those that have come to see their phones and laptops as a nuisance.
