About the experience
An immersive walk around the charming Old Latin Quarter in Panjim. Soak in the rich heritage of a neighborhood described by historian William Dalrymple as a ‘small chunk of Portugal washed up on the shores of the Indian Ocean’, and interact with locals who strive to keep centuries of culture alive to this day.
Highlights
- Discover the untold history of the city of Panjim at Tobacco Square, and hear intriguing tales of the neighbourhood’s former colonial Portuguese residents.
- Be transported to a bygone era as we explore painstakingly preserved heritage buildings that have survived the onslaught of development in the 21st century – including the Chapel of Sao Tome and the Panjim Inn. The quaint streets are lined with traditional Portuguese style homes in a palette of striking bright colours, making this every photographer’s paradise.
- Visit Panjim’s oldest bakery and have a taste of their traditional Goan treats with a refreshing beverage (subject to the bakery’s operational timings).
- Meet with a renowned local Goan musician and enjoy a live performance of his distinctive blend of Konkani and Latin styles.
- Support the local economy with a visit to a store of handcrafted local products, and take a piece of Goa home with you.

For someone who likes to know more about what they are looking at, the Heritage walk is a great experience. Walking around in the streets of Fontainhas is beautiful as it is, but having that extra context and information about what you’re looking at always makes it better. Additionally, the timing of this couldn’t be better for us, with the Christmas spirit all around.
We had a lovely time at the walk. The storytelling was engaging, ripe with historical anecdotes and fun, to say the least. Thank you, Nelson. We talked about the history of Goa, the construction of the houses, the balconies, the windows and everything in between. Learning about the local cultures, the people, their motivations and religious beliefs helped us understand why Fontainhas looks the way it does and what makes it unique. And to top it all, we were lucky enough to find a great group of people to share the experience with.
Highly recommend this experience to anyone wondering it it’s worth the time. We might, in fact, book another experience with Make It Happen since we enjoyed this so much.

Definitely a must to- do thing (When in Goa)
Feb 2022
This was my 2nd heritage walk experience with Make it happen team & they do continue to amaze you with beautiful historic streets of Panjim. During the Fontainhas Heritage walk, we ventured around with the right amount of historic background, went to old heritage cafe for a quick bite. Our storyteller, Nelson, gave us the right amount of time to absorb the information, feel the history through the remnants (from the textures, to the colours, to the windows and everything in between) and a great amount of laughter in between (With his puns and jokes).
The Tour ended with a lovely music show( I wasn’t expecting that) and that definitely was a delightful surprise in the experience. A Lovely feast on Goa history and what remains of it, indeed. Don’t miss the walks when you are in Goa!!!

Eclectic mix of history and stories!
Feb 2022
It was lovely to go around the area with Amreen. So many stories, so many funny anecdotes and so much history. It was an eclectic mix. Make It Happen has really curated it well. The cherry on the cake was of course the local drinks and titbits to eat during the walk. Loved it. Highly recommended for all people interested in either history or story!

The best activity we did in Panjim, hearing about the history of Goa and Panjim, the unique and interesting culture that has developed here over the years. Nelson (our guide for the day) was friendly, informative and great to chat with. We ended up hanging out in the area till late in the evening, visiting the famous Joseph Bar and made some great memories there. highly recommended stop for your Goa trip.

They Made It Happen!
I am a huge history buff and where ever I travel I ensure that i spend some time exploring the local historic sights and have a good walk about of the old quarters. Goa was on the list recently and I was not disappointed one bit. The team from MIH was extremely proactive from the time of suggesting options to the actual execution. Our guide Lata and her protege were extremely informative and did extremely well keeping us engaged and well informed at all times.

A must attend!!
Had a lovely time discover the past and present of Fontainhas. The host, Petulla was really welcoming and had so many Portuguese stories to share. I’d summarize it as a a delight and must attend if you are in Goa and want to experience the Portuguese heritage. Great walk for people who want to explore, learn and capture the aesthetics of the Latin alleys of Goa.

Lovely colourful guided walk, with musical surprise!
Feb 2022 – Couples
We had a lovely guided walk around the colourful Fontainhas district on a Sunday morning after being recommended by a friend. Our guide Petula was very knowledgeable and friendly, and gave us a fascinating insight into the history of Goa. The stop off at a local bakery was delightful, and there was a wonderful musical surprise at the end of tour! Highly recommended!
