Review and recommendations
Brought to you by the Dhuri family of Tato’s, Vida brings upscale, modern dining to Margao. Occupying a large, airy space in Borda with verdant views of the open land it faces, Vida caters to the Goan and Indian palette. Swish interiors, high ceilings and a glass façade provide an urban edge.
Predominantly Goan dishes feature on the menu interspersed with Mughlai kebabs, bar bites and junglee maas. Small plates look like Goan baingan bharith (mashed eggplant) on small discs of roti, plantain stuffed with green chutney before being rava fried in ghee, tambdi (red amaranth) bhaji samosas, tisryo (clams) sukke and chicken liver paté. Infamous Goan comfort food, kaanji or pez, a rice gruel is on the menu with a range of fixings. Xacuti, hooman, vindaloo, cafreal – all the usual suspects dotting Goan restaurant menus are to be found here too. An innovative bar menu proffers the likes of a negroni made with bay leaf infused gin and brandy, Monkey 47 with rose and berries and grapefruit tonic water with Jameson. A cavernous space makes for live music nights and a giant flat screen is a draw for those who want to catch the latest match over a tipple or two.
